Sierra Leone Holland Foundation is established in 2008; its mission:
- Building a bridge between Sierra Leone and The Netherlands to effectively and practically shape solidarity between people here and abroad
- Assisting the local population in becoming self-reliant/further developing themselves
- Initiating projects that give people new hope and insight in how to improve their living conditions
The Foundation aims at:
Granting aid - in the broadest sense of the word – to the people of Sierra Leone (be it spiritually, materially or financially).
Our foundation is dedicated to (among other things):
Education: allowing children and young adults to go to school and discover their talents through:
- Making available tuition fees
- Building schools/classrooms
- Making available school supplies
- Making available clothes and shoes
Daytime activities: offering various daytime activities to young adults. A lot of young adults live in poor neighbourhoods and most of them are unable to go to school because of the country’s economic and social situation. They have little or no education and as a result are having trouble finding a job. Many are aimlessly walking the streets, causing trouble or end up victims of violence, sexual abuse or prostitution. Their self-esteem is low. A daytime activity (e.g. sports or dance) can help change all that.
Healthcare: improving the health situation of people by (among other things):
- Raising awareness
- Issueing medicines/contraceptives
- Contributing to medical expenses
Entrepreneurship: improving living conditions of women (and their families) by stimulating entrepreneurship (e.g. setting up cooperatives).
