About Literaturhaus Deutsche Bibliothek / Zeehelden Bibliotheek

The Literaturhaus was founded in 1953 as the German Library and, with over 7,000 books and films, is the place to go for German-language literature in The Hague.

In 2018, the German Library was expanded to include the Zeehelden Library, a neighborhood library for adults and children. Founded with funding from the Municipality of The Hague, the media inventory includes around 1,000 books.

The Literaturhaus has set itself the goal of promoting the German language and culture for everyone who is interested.
We offer readings by contemporary authors, lectures, moderated talks, panel discussions and film evenings. The Literature House organizes different formats related to literature and reading. Our goal is to make German literature accessible to a wide audience and we have also been offering digital formats since 2020
