2019 'Mix & Match' Networking Event - 10 December
From small things like finding places to eat and to socialize, to important things like finding housing or a job, we internationals face sharp learning curves as we set up and live our lives here in the Netherlands. We know that all of you are up to the challenge, but it's always nice to have a little help and advice - and to offer what you've learned in your personal journey to others!
In that spirit, Volunteer The Hague is proud to invite you to join us on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 for our latest “Mix & Match” Networking Event! As always, this event will be attended by other local expats and internationals with whom to network, as well as amazing nonprofit organizations with whom you can volunteer! Committed organizations such as Kessler Foundation, Moeders Informeren Moeders, Foodbank Haaglanden, and Florence Locatie Mariahoeve will be in attendance, as well as other nonprofits that specialize in a wide variety of service areas: animal care, human rights, social justice, refugee and migrant assistance, homelessness, elderly care, child care, the environment, and so much more. So there is something for everyone, no matter your background or specialization!
And to start off our event, we have teacher and linguist Gabriel Rodriguez to speak on a topic we know has been on the minds every expat at some point - learning foreign languages! A language teacher for nearly 15 years and a Stanford University-trained linguist, Gabriel will offer attendees practical tips and tricks for learning the Dutch language quickly and efficiently. And don't worry if your Dutch is already advanced, because these tips and tricks can be applied to your studies when learning any foreign language!
We hope you'll join us on December 10 for this fantastic learning and networking opportunity. Hope to see you there!
About the Presenter
Gabriel Rodriguez has worked as an ESL and foreign language educator since 2005. He has experience teaching several languages in a wide array of educational environments: He has taught English to children and adults in Japan, China, and Korea, and has taught Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish at universities in the United States. He holds Bachelor's degrees in Japanese and East Asian History from the University of California at Berkeley, and obtained his Master's degree in East Asian Languages and Cultures from Stanford University. Before coming to the Netherlands earlier this year, Gabriel worked as a lecturer of Japanese Language and Culture at Portland State University. He now spends his time as a freelance translator and localizer, as well as researching and writing about linguistics and foreign language teaching. He also very much enjoys volunteering his time as Communications Officer with Volunteer The Hague!
What are Mix & Match Networking Events?
We at Volunteer The Hague are thrilled to be able to offer ‘Mix & Match' Networking Events periodically, to help both organisations and internationals connect with each other. This initiative was launched in 2015 and it has been a resounding success so far! These events focus on highlighting the benefits of volunteering by showcasing non-profit organisations, providoing networking opportunities, and helping non-profit organisations connect with prospective volunteers.
In addition to these events being a fantastic opportunity for networking, we also invite a guest speaker to speak to our attendees! These speakers are experts in their fields, all of which are of interest to expats and internationals living in the Netherlands. Our amazing past speakers have included experts who have discussed a wide variety of topics, including psychology, neuro-linguistic programming, business networking skills, Dutch non-profits, and so much more.

If you are a representative of a non-profit organisation that is looking to share more about the work that you do, as well as connect with prospective volunteers at our events, we would love to hear from you! We would also love to hear from you if you are an expert in a field that may be of interest to local internationals, and are interested in taking up the speaker’s opportunity at our event - or if you know of an expert who fits the bill! Please email Volunteer The Hague Project Manager Tetyana Benzeroual at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.

June 2016 edition
On June 23, 2016 Volunteer The Hague team organised its second event of the year from the Networking Event Series. The event once again this year proved to be a great success for our internationals. Eighty volunteers from all over, came eager to find a place where they can contribute and make a difference in the community. It was such a joy to watch organisations in the same room meet with potential volunteers and make connections. The atmosphere was so vibrant, you could feel volunteers really enjoying themselves at the event. Not to mention the fact that they had the chance to chat with the participating organisations and also meet Manuela Damant, the speaker of the mini workshop, to ask more questions on volunteering. We look very much forward to hear stories from our volunteers and find out how the volunteering experience is impacting them personally as they make a difference in the community.
Please don’t forget to check out the pictures from the event here.
April 2016 edition
On Wednesday 13 April, 2016 Volunteer The Hague hosted its first event of this year. As we look back, it was so wonderful to see future volunteers connect with local organisations based in The Hague.
At the event we had six organisations give a brief presentation about what they do, and how internationals can be involved. We also had a mini workshop with Emilija Trajkovik-Hristova where she talked about "Start fulfilling your vision for a dream job today."
It was a lovely evening and lots of connections were made between the organisations and attendees. Our favourite part was meeting and networking with the new and old guests together with the local non-profit organisations. It was an amazing evening with wonderful people in a great atmosphere. Our guests went home learning that there is something to do for everyone, acknowledging that those who can, do. And those who can do more, volunteer.
Our pictures from the event will be up on Facebook very soon, please check the Facebook page regularly.
December 2015 edition
On 9th of December 2015, we successfully hosted our last event of 2015. One of the highlights of the event was our guest speaker Tessa Faber, founder of Making Sense. In an interactive session Tessa introduced everyone to the seven easy steps about "How to brand and express yourself".
Around 12 local not-for-profit organisations came along us last year and had the opportunity to share about themselves and different ways internationals in The Hague can get involved.
