FAQ for Volunteers

I applied for a vacancy but have not heard back from the organization.

We are sorry to hear this. Please understand that some of the organizations receive dozens of applications per day, depending on the popularity of the vacancy. For instance, animal-related and nursing home volunteering positions tend to fill up the quickest. Also, many organizations are busy and simply do not have the time to contact each applicant with their status. If you are curious, please contact the organization directly by telephone or email. This will also increase your chances of getting a volunteering position of your dreams, as the organization will be quick to notice your dedication and interest. Bonus points for you!

How do I find the right volunteering opportunity for me?

To narrow down your search, you can take our fun Talentscan, a kind of quiz to help you find the perfect vacancy for you. It only takes 5 minutes, and will shorten the results of our 300 vacancies!

How do I make myself more attractive as a volunteer?

When registering with us, you have the option to upload a CV. To make yourself stand out amongst the other applicants, we would strongly recommend uploading an up-to-date, detailed and relevant CV to your profile. If there is a vacancy that is of particular interest, be sure to write a letter of motivation that is clear of what you can contribute and send it to the organizer directly. How can I find a volunteer fast?

If you need to quickly find volunteers, you can simply search our database of volunteers through your account. There you can find the CVs of volunteers, their data, and can email up to 600 people.

Our vacancy is in Dutch.

Only vacancies that are suitable for non-Dutch speakers can be advertised by Volunteer The Hague. If the text description is in Dutch we can translate it for you—no problem. However, the vacancy and job itself must be suitable for non-Dutch speakers.

Our organization focuses on missions abroad. Can we still register and post vacancies at Volunteer The Hague?

Only local, Dutch non-profit organizations that are registered with the Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands can be registered and have their volunteering vacancies posted with Volunteer The Hague. The missions do not have to be The Hague-focused and can be international but your organization must have a KVK number. You can find more information about the KVK number at https://business.gov.nl/.

How do I reach the most volunteers?

Once you register with Volunteer The Hague, you have access to over 600 volunteers, with an average age of 35, and highly educated. If you would like to also reach Dutch volunteers, you can register with Den Haag Doet, and from there you can post vacancies to their Dutch audience. To reach our international audience as well, simply check the box at the bottom of the vacancy form that says “translate into English.” We will personally translate the application for you and your vacancy will also be posted to Volunteer The Hague website. 

Our vacancy is posted but we don’t have many/any applications.

We would recommend for you to review your vacancy description. The more details you have, the more applications you will receive. Potential volunteers are interested in what is expected of them, so the clearer you are, the better off you’ll be.
