Detailed description

Equal at Work is a multi-day training programme that aims to empower you as a young professional to counter discrimination and unconscious bias against women in the workplace. The programme consists of multiple activities that take place over the course of February - June 2025.

What you'll gain

Understanding Workplace Discrimination:

  • Understand the root causes of workplace inequality.
  • Recognize everyday bias and microaggressions.
  • Identify structural barriers to women's advancement in your organisation.

Confidence in Influencing Change:

  • Feel ready to speak up about gender equality.
  • Develop your unique strengths & capacities to foster gender equality in your role.
  • Feel supported by a community of peers.

Practical Skills for Promoting Equality:

  • Learn to navigate bias in your everyday work life.
  • Familiarise with frameworks, policies and practices that contribute to inclusive workplaces.
  • Be able to build initiatives with internal support.

Your profile

You're aged 18 to 30, living in the Netherlands, and employed in the Netherlands, with a vested interest in contributing to a gender-equal society. And you have the space and freedom to start an initiative within your organisation to advance gender equity. You are motivated to address workplace gender inequality but may not feel fully ready to advocate for it, seeking confidence and competence.

Activities

Here's an overview of the activities that take place as part of this training programme:

  • 6 Feb. 11:00-12:30 Online kickoff meeting with all the participants.
  • 20 Feb. 09:00-13:00 Meeting up with Accenture at their head office in Amsterdam Zuid, taking inspiration and valuable insights from their approach to gender equality.
  • Week of 3 Mar. Online meeting with a policy maker who is active in the field of gender equality.
  • 19 Mar. (evening) - 22 Mar. Part 1 of the multi-day training course in Ommen. Focus on bonding, understanding workplace gender discrimination, and authentic leadership.
  • 2 Apr. (evening) - 5 Apr. Part 2 of the training course in Ommen. Focus is on navigating bias, and familiarizing & practising with how to contribute to more inclusive workplaces through initiatives, policies and practices.
  • Apr. to Jun. Continuing to work on your own initiative for promoting gender-equal policies, practices, attitudes or behaviours at your workplace, after having started working on it during the training course.
  • 20 Jun. 14:00-17:30 Final event in Den Haag during which we'll reflect on your initiatives and broader developments within your workplaces, together with people from within and outside of your organisation.

About Advocates Who Thrive

At Advocates Who Thrive we empower current or aspiring advocates to become more influential in their fight for social and environmental justice.

We do so by offering them training and coaching opportunities that build their confidence, capacity and competences to speak up, lobby & campaign for the environment, animal rights, human rights and inclusion.

In order to successfully address these urgent societal challenges, we need all kinds of angles and viewpoints to be on board. That’s where our main activities – the intensive, multi-day training courses that we organize – come in. Where international youth from all kinds of backgrounds come together. The training setup in combination with their passion and collective drive allows them to fully focus on the topic and on each other. As a result, participants develop themselves and each other in ways they never imagined before.

Fully in line with these values, in our organization we welcome and involve youth from all walks of life. No matter their background, religion, education, ethnicity, gender identity, or sexual orientation, everyone is welcome to join!
