Summary
Do you have an ear for sound and are technically competent? Want to produce quality broadcast? Show us your skills!Detailed description
Candidates should have an ear for sound and be technically competent. Students with an ear for music are often suitable, but don’t come to the studio expecting a music show; Dutchbuzz is a news programme and features just a few tracks of music. If you are thinking of a DJ role or chat show host, this is not for you. Being in charge of the sound desk is quite a responsibility as the quality of the broadcast depends on you. It’s an exciting job and requires a cool head and steady nerves. We work in teams of two sound technicians, so there will always be backup from a colleague. There are only 2 positions for this role.
What’s expected of you
You will be trained on the job by the sound technicians who are present in the studio. It’s all hands-on at the sound desk and you will have the opportunity to observe experienced sound technicians at work and ask them questions. This will require your presence in the studio for 3 hours once a week. Sound technicians arrive at the DHFM studios an hour before the programme. They download the recorded content sent to them by the programme producer, mix the recordings with set jingles and music, and ‘drive’ the live broadcast in the studio.
For this position, no language skills are required, but you do need to be interested in local affairs. You may be asked to participate in a discussion if it’s a topic that you have knowledge about. Dutchbuzz is a team effort so you will need to be interested in the programme content as well as the technical aspects of a quality and lively broadcast. Listening to the presenters, timing the jingles and music and getting the best sound quality out of the presentation and recordings are all important aspects of your role. The Dutchbuzz team has worked very hard to make their contributions to the weekly programme, you now need to do justice to their work.
Note that the studio attendance once a week is from 20.00 to 22.00 on a Tuesday. DHFM broadcasts from the Omroep West building in Rijswijk.
