Detailed description

Do you want to make a difference in the lives of queer youth in The Hague and contribute to a more inclusive and safe society? Join our volunteer group at Stichting Queer Mind and help us run our organisation!

About Stichting Queer Mind:

Founded in 2021, Stichting Queer Mind is committed to tackling the social and cultural challenges faced by queer youth in The Hague, including critical issues such as violence and homelessness. One of our primary initiatives is Le Refuge, a night and day shelter that provides vital support to homeless queer youth in The Hague. To further our mission, we are seeking a team of committed volunteers to either assist with behind-the-scenes organisational activities or directly contribute to the work at Le Refuge.

Volunteer Role:

As a volunteer, you will help ensure the smooth operation of our organisation and day shelter. The specific tasks may vary each day and are open to discussion, allowing us to align them with your needs and preferences. These might include:

  • Creating a welcoming and supportive environment in day shelter,
  • Maintaining the living room,
  • Assisting workshop leaders in facilitating workshops,
  • Referring participants of the day shelter needing extra support to social workers,
  • Participate in planning, coordination and execution of Queer Mind events,
  • Collaborate effectively in a team of volunteers and staff at Queer Mind,
  • Provide on-the-day support at Queer Mind events,
  • Supporting on outreach strategy to reach more participants for the organisations events and day shelter,
  • Managing Queer Mind’s social media (including Instagram and Facebook),
  • Attending networking events in association with Queer Mind.

Time Commitment:

To give our community the best experience, we have to offer a variety of opening times with different activities. We are therefore looking for someone who can commit to volunteering every week. Your consistent presence is crucial in providing the stability and support our community relies on. We’re seeking a commitment of at least one day per week, for a minimum of 6 hours.

Criteria:

  • Friendly and empathetic,
  • Passionate about supporting the queer community,
  • Strong organisation skills,
  • Verbal and written communication skills.

Benefits of Volunteering with Stichting Queer Mind:

  • Make a meaningful impact within a passionate and driven non-profit organisation.
  • Join a diverse, like-minded, and committed team dedicated to sustainability and inclusivity.
  • Participate in monthly social activities with volunteers and staff.
  • Enjoy access to various creative workshops.
  • Attend a range of events, including those open to the broader community.
  • Be part of a free, open, and safe environment.
  • Always feel welcome to share your ideas, thoughts, and opinions.

If you're interested in joining our team, please submit a short motivation statement (250 words max) to [email protected]. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out via email as well.

About Stichting Queer Mind

Everyone in The Hague has the right to a safe living environment, regardless of origin, sexuality or gender identity.

Homelessness and violence (physical or verbal) are still high among LGBTIQ+ people. We want to discuss and combat this! By peacefully campaigning, entering into dialogues and offering support to LGBTIQ+ people who (threaten to) end up on the street and realizing the shelter "Le Refuge Nederland".
