Summary

A Sinterklaas gift for every child!
Do you think it is important to be socially involved and are you looking for a board position?

Detailed description

Did you know.....?

Did you know that in the Netherlands 1 in 12 children grows up in (hidden) poverty and cannot celebrate Sinterklaas because there is no money for a gift at home? In 2024, our foundation aims to give 34,000 children a Sinterklaas gift package. Most of these children live in these 4 regions in the Netherlands, Haaglanden, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Arnhem. This year we are expanding in the Haaglanden region, allowing us to reach more children. The Sintvoorieder1 Foundation believes that every child counts and every child should be seen. Every child has been kind and deserves a nice Sinterklaas gift on December 5!

The foundation

The Sintvoorieder1 foundation started at the kitchen table and has now, 15 years later, grown into an organization that runs on a core team of more than 85 volunteers and depends on donations.

The general manager, who is also the founder of the foundation, is responsible for the daily management of the organization. By appointing a general manager, the board is a policy-making and supervisory body. The board has final responsibility and sets frameworks. The board adopts the annual policy plan and the annual report and monitors their implementation.

Due to the departure of the chairman of the board on July 15, we are looking for a socially involved and administratively experienced chairman.

The board consists of 6 members (temporarily 5 members from July 15). When composing our board, we take into account the experience, expertise and network of the members in relation to the nature and activities of our foundation. We also strive for balanced representation from different communities, age groups and gender.

Who are we looking for?

For this position of chairman, it is important that you have experience in a similar management position and/or role in a social organization. You preferably have experience with our governance model and it is an advantage if you also have experience in guiding change processes and have or want to gain knowledge of the UN sustainability goals.

You are able to attend 6 to 8 board meetings per year (some live, some online, depending on the agreements within the board) and do the necessary preparatory and executive work. In addition, you have integrity and your heart is in the right place. You fully support the purpose of our foundation and are willing to work for this voluntarily and unpaid. With the general manager you are also the face to the outside world.

Job profile Chairman

For Sintvoorieder1 we are looking for a chairman who, together with the other board members and the general manager, can provide direction for the fulfillment of our mission, guaranteeing continuity and the further development of the foundation.

You feel comfortable in a guiding and supervisory role and are alert to social developments. You can also collaborate and network well.

You are enterprising, have work experience in a business organization and preferably experience in establishing and maintaining contacts with public and social organizations. You are a positive connector and think in opportunities. Your vision of the future of the foundation shows courage and decisiveness. In addition, we are looking for a pleasant colleague in you with whom it is pleasant to discuss and work together. We think humor is important.

Activities

● (co-)drafting the multi-year plan and budget;

● Ensuring the continuity of the Foundation;

● Monitoring compliance with the foundation's articles of association;

● Chairing the board meetings. You also prepare the agenda for the board meeting together with the secretary;

● Acts as a sounding board for the general manager on specific matters.

Who else are you?

You are an enthusiastic and proactive team player and you are able to motivate and empower people. You have good communication skills (both oral and written). You do what you say and say what you do, in other words you - just like us - attach great importance to transparency. You are actively committed to raising the profile of the foundation even better and are willing to use your own network for this.

We offer

A friendly and inspiring board based in Voorburg and contacts with organizations and individuals involved in social themes.

About Stichting Sintvoorieder1

For 1 in 9 children who grow up in (hidden) poverty, a present on Sinterklaas Eve is not at all self-evident. It is also inexplicable that the Good Saint drives past their house, while friends and classmates do receive presents. This has a major impact on a child's social and emotional development.

The Sintvoorieder1 Foundation is committed to unburdening these families and putting a smile on the faces of these children (and their parents!) on Christmas Eve. Because every child deserves to be seen on December 5.

Throughout the year, our warehouse employees put together a Sinterklaas gift package for every vulnerable child with the utmost care, carefully write a beautiful poem and wrap the presents with sweets with lots of love. With a large team of volunteers and many business and social friends and donors, our goal is to make no fewer than 34,000 children spread across the Netherlands happy by 2024.
